Ludhiana, March 22, 2013: The Department of Excise and Taxation Department today conducted draw of lots for allotment of retail sale of foreign liquor (L-2) and retail sale of country liquor (L-14A) vends.

The department had earlier invited applications for these allotments.

According to available information, the licence fee to be realised from these allotment increased from Rs.516.51 crore (for 2012-13) to Rs. 556.05 crore for next fiscal (2013-14) in respect of Ludhiana district.

A huge response was witnessed from the participants and total of 10,382 applicants were received for allotments. The department has collected application money of Rs.64.62 crore from participants as against Rs. 48.38 crore realised during the previous financial year.

The draw of lots for Ludhiana district was conducted in a local resort today amidst huge and enthusiastic present of participants. The draw slips were taken out by participants, press people and general public present at the venue. The entire process of allotment was duly videographed.

The secretary, Department of Excise and Taxation, Punjab DP Reddy also came personally and witnessed the proceedings. He was happy to note that all the liquor vends in Punjab have been disposed off in the first go. He also expressed satisfaction over the enthusiastic response of the participants all over the state.
