Chennai, Nov 21 (IANS) Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader, Thol Thiruvamavalan has landed in a controversy after hugging Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convict, R.P. Ravichandran who was released from prison recently along with five other convicts.

Ravichandran was a travel operator and had arranged cars for the killers of then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to reach to the spot of the assassination.

Speaking to mediapersons, BJP leader H. Raja said Thirumavalavan should be arrested and put behind the bars for his act.

The All India Congress Committee is planning to move a review petition in the Supreme Court in the comings days against the verdict of the apex court, releasing the prisoners in the Rajiv assassination case.

Congress leader Americai Narayanan told reporters that the VCK leader's act was condemnable and that the assassins of the former Prime Minister had escaped from incarceration using certain loopholes in the law.

He said that these people are anti-national and anti-Tamil.

It is to be noted that the Congress is in a political alliance with the DMK and the VCK in Tamil Nadu and both parties supported the release of Rajiv Gandhi's assassins.
