Assandh, August 19, 2026: Dr Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), said villages will play a crucial role in achieving the goal of a developed India and stressed that rural development, employment and basic amenities must be strengthened to build a strong rural economy.

Addressing a workers’ awareness meeting on the VB-G RAM G scheme at village Thari, Dr Chauhan urged villagers to stay informed about government schemes and actively avail themselves of benefits for which they are eligible.

He said the scheme provides eligible rural families with up to 125 days of employment annually on demand, which would help raise household incomes and strengthen the village economy.

When villagers complained that eligible people were not receiving work under the scheme, Dr Chauhan immediately contacted Block Development and Panchayat Officer Prashant Kumar and Additional Block Programme Officer Sandeep over the phone. The officials assured him that the issues would be addressed and eligible beneficiaries would be provided the scheme’s benefits.

Dr Chauhan also urged villagers to participate regularly in Gram Sabha meetings, describing them as an important platform to raise local issues, identify development priorities and ensure greater public participation in village development.

Gram Secretary Kuldeep welcomed the villagers and said the Gram Sabha provides an effective forum for discussing development works and public grievances.

A large number of villagers, including Rakesh, Chandu, Vijay, Anarkali, Naresh, Amit, Ramesh and Pinky, attended the meeting and discussed issues related to development works and government schemes.
