Chandigarh, August 2, 2026: Residents Welfare Association (RWA), Sector 10-D, Chandigarh celebrated Van Mahotsav 2026 with great enthusiasm and community participation on Sunday, at Park No. 1, Sector 10-D.
The function was graced by  Amit Kumar, IAS, as the Chief Guest, Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Chandigarh, Sanjay Arora Chief Engineer MC, Mahesh Inder Sidhu Councilor, Mona Narang Principal DAV college Sector-10 . All the dignitaries arrived on time and were warmly welcomed by the office bearers of the RWA and the residents.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Manjit Singh Sarang, President, RWA Sector 10-D, who highlighted the importance of protecting the environment and increasing green cover through active public participation. He also appreciated the valuable contribution of the Municipal Corporation, volunteers, residents, and children in making the event a grand success.
The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour planted saplings to inaugurate the plantation drive. The RWA had thoughtfully prepared and installed personalized name plaques beside each tree planted by the dignitaries, creating a lasting memory of their commitment towards environmental conservation.
A special feature of the event was the enthusiastic participation of more than 100 children and residents, who planted flowering and shade-giving trees in different parts of the park. Several residents also planted trees in the loving memory of their late parents and other family members, making the occasion both environmentally meaningful and emotionally touching.
Every participating child was presented with a Participation Certificate by the RWA in recognition of their contribution to protecting nature. Individual photographs of each child with their planted tree and certificate were taken to preserve this memorable occasion and inspire them to care for their trees in the years ahead.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour appreciated the remarkable efforts of the RWA, Sector 10-D, in maintaining parks, promoting greenery, and encouraging environmental awareness among children and residents. They congratulated the Association for organizing such a meaningful community initiative and appealed to everyone to plant and nurture more trees for a cleaner, greener, and healthier Chandigarh.
Speaking on the occasion, Manjit Singh Sarang, President, RWA Sector 10-D, thanked the Chief Guest, the Guest of Honour, all distinguished guests, residents, children, volunteers, and the media for their wholehearted support. He reiterated that the RWA would continue to organize such environmental initiatives and encourage every family to contribute towards preserving nature for future generations.
The function concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by refreshments for all participants. The event received an overwhelming response from residents and demonstrated the community's strong commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
