Vajra Corps Celebrates Vijay Diwas to commemorate historic victory of Indian Armed Forces in 1971 Indo-Pak War

Jalandhar, December 16, 2025: Vajra Corps celebrated Vijay Diwas today to commemorate the historic victory of the Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 Indo-Pak War - a defining chapter in India’s military heritage that reaffirmed the Nation’s Courage, Unity, and Strategic Brilliance. The war marked an unparalleled achievement, as India triumphed on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, leading to the liberation of East Pakistan and the creation of Bangladesh. On the Western Front, the Vajra Corps, proudly known as the “Defenders of Punjab,” played a pivotal role through determined leadership, professional excellence and the indomitable spirit of its soldiers, achieving assigned operational objectives and defeating repeated enemy attempts to breach the Punjab sector defences.
 
During the 1971 campaign, Vajra Corps undertook high-intensity operations in key battles at Dera Baba Nanak, Burj-Fatehpur and Sehjra, where enemy resistance was decisively overcome. At Dera Baba Nanak, the Corps captured the Pakistani enclave on Ravi River along with the strategic bridge by 07 December 1971, effectively securing the sector and disrupting enemy communications. In the heavily defended Shakargarh Bulge, the battle of Burj-Fatehpur was marked by fierce close-quarter fighting, demonstrating the outstanding courage and leadership of frontline Infantry formations. At Sehjra, coordinated manoeuvre, effective artillery support and resolute defence, guided by commanders including Maj Gen Mohinder Singh Chopra, MVC, successfully blunted Pakistani armoured counter attacks and preserved hard-won tactical gains. The exceptional gallantry displayed during these operations was recognized through 09 Maha Vir Chakras, 50 Vir Chakras and 72 Sena Medals, in addition to numerous other awards - a lasting tribute to the valour and sacrifice of Vajra Corps warriors.
 
As part of the Vijay Diwas commemorations, Lieutenant General Ajay Chandpuria, General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps, along with Serving personnel, Veterans and Veer Naris, paid solemn homage to the fallen heroes during a wreath-laying ceremony at Vajra Shaurya Sthal, Jalandhar Cantt. The observance also featured heartwarming interactions and felicitation of Veterans and Veer Naris, reaffirming the Corps’ enduring bond with its war heroes and their families. To inspire the youth and nurture national pride, the celebrations included a Weapon and Equipment Display, a Patriotic Movie Fest, and motivational engagements showcasing the courage, discipline and technological capabilities of today’s Indian Army.
 
Building on its proud legacy, Vajra Corps continues to exemplify vigilance and operational excellence in the present era. During Operation SINDOOR, Vajra Warriors demonstrated swift, coordinated response to secure vulnerable stretches of the Punjab frontier and deny any adversary exploitation of the international boundary. Through continuous training, technology infusion, realistic exercises and robust Military – Civil Fusion, the Corps maintains the highest standards of combat readiness.
