The occasion reflected the deep bond between Serving Soldiers, Veterans and the Nation they have steadfastly protected.
Jalandhar, January 15, 2026: Vajra Corps commemorated the 78th Army Day with solemn dignity, warmth and a strong sense of camaraderie, paying heartfelt tribute to the indomitable spirit, selfless service and enduring legacy of the Indian Army. The occasion reflected the deep bond between Serving Soldiers, Veterans and the Nation they have steadfastly protected.
Army Day, observed annually on 15 January, marks a defining milestone in India’s military history; the historic appointment of Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa in 1949 as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. The day symbolises leadership, professionalism and the proud traditions of the Armed Forces.
The commemorations commenced with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Vajra Shaurya Sthal. Lieutenant General Ajay Chandpuria, AVSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps, paid homage to the fallen heroes who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Veterans also laid wreaths, joining in collective remembrance of the Bravehearts whose courage and sacrifice continue to inspire generations. The ceremony was marked by dignity, reverence and deep respect.
Addressing the gathering thereafter, Lieutenant General Chandpuria expressed profound gratitude to the Veterans for their courage, resilience and immeasurable contributions to the Nation. Commending the all-round professional excellence of the formation, he exhorted all ranks to sustain an offensive and innovative mindset, firmly anchored in technology-enabled tactics, techniques and procedures. He urged personnel to relentlessly pursue excellence and uphold the highest standards of professionalism that define the Indian Army.
Highlighting the evolving character of modern warfare, the General Officer Commanding emphasised the importance of remaining abreast of emerging and cutting-edge technologies to ensure operational agility, future readiness and decisive advantage across the full spectrum of operations.
The 78th Army Day celebrations reaffirmed Vajra Corps’ unwavering commitment to honouring its heroes, preserving its proud legacy and remaining ever prepared to safeguard the Nation with courage, integrity and steadfast resolve.
