Vaccination campaign to protect dairy animals commences

Taking proactive approach to protect the dairy animals against Haemorrhagic Septicaemia commonly known as 'Gal Ghotu' an extensive vaccination drive has been started by Distt. animal husbandry department, yesterday. Keeping in view of some animal death reports from district Barnala, animals in adjoining belts of tehsil Raikot and Jagraon are now being vaccinated against this deadly disease as a pre emptive measure.

Ludhiana, April 7, 2024: Taking proactive approach to protect the dairy animals against Haemorrhagic Septicaemia commonly known as 'Gal Ghotu' an extensive vaccination drive has been started by Distt. animal husbandry department, yesterday. Keeping in view of some animal death reports from district Barnala, animals in adjoining belts of tehsil Raikot and Jagraon are now being vaccinated against this deadly disease as a pre emptive measure.

Disclosing this in a written press statement today Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Ludhiana, Dr Paramdeep Singh Walia said exercising pro active approach an early vaccination drive has been started to protect the cattle and buffalo population in the adjoining villages of Raikot and Jagraon tehsils. 9 teams of vets and paravets have been constituted to accomplish this gigantic task. Succeptible species of cow and buffalo are being vaccinated daily on war footing. Constituted teams under the direct supervision of veterinary officers are visiting home to home to inoculate the vulnerable population of livestock. To protect the potency and quality of vaccine, cold chain is continuosly being maintained using refrigerators and vaccine carriers. As a check, assistant director animal health at distt. level is deputed for day to day monitoring of daily work done.

Deputy commissioner Ludhiana Sakshi Sawhney has made a strong appeal to the farmers to get their animals vaccinated against 'Gal Ghotu' disease. There is no dearth of veterinary staff and vaccine stock to safeguard the interests of dairy farmers, she informed.

Haemorrhagic Septicaemia is very devastating disease which not only causes production losses but may also leads to death of infected animals. 

Entire elligible population of cattle, buffalo, sheep and goat has already been fully vaccinated against Foot and Mouth disease.
