US patient undergoes TAVR procedure at Max

Chandigarh, October 8, 2023: A maiden transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure on an international elderly patient was performed successfully at Max Hospital, Mohali recently.

TAVR, a minimally invasive procedure, is a revolutionary approach for treating aortic valve stenosis which is a condition often found in elderly individuals. TAVR offers a safer and less invasive alternative to open-heart surgery, particularly beneficial for older patients or those at higher surgical risk.

The patient from US was diagnosed with various health issues including hyperthyroidism, COPD, hypertension, renal failure, Parkinson’s disease and severe aortic valve stenosis.

The cardiology team including Dr Kapil K. Chattree associate director cardiology, Dr. Gagandip Singh senior consultant cardiology and Dr Dheeraj Dhumir from pain management and cardiac anesthesia carefully assessed the patient's condition and determined that TAVR was the most suitable treatment option.

The TAVR procedure was performed using the most advanced aortic valve and proved to be a resounding success marking a significant achievement not only for the hospital but also for the medical community in the region, said Dr Kapil K. Chattree adding the patient is now on the road to recovery and experiencing an improved quality of life.
