Rohtak, December 18, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta said that the Haryana Government is committed to the social and economic empowerment of women and is implementing a series of welfare-oriented schemes aimed at making them self-reliant and financially independent. As part of this initiative, the Widow Grant Scheme is being implemented to support widowed women by providing easy access to institutional finance for self-employment.
Under this scheme, widowed women of the state are being provided bank loans of up to ₹3 lakh to start income-generating activities. The scheme is specifically designed to enable widowed women to establish their own livelihood, improve their standard of living, and achieve long-term economic stability.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that widowed women with an annual family income of up to ₹3 lakh are eligible to avail the benefits of the scheme. The applicant must be between 18 and 60 years of age, should be a resident of Haryana, and must not be a defaulter in any previous bank loan. He emphasized that the scheme is transparent and beneficiary-oriented, ensuring that genuine applicants receive timely support.
A major highlight of the Widow Grant Scheme is the interest subsidy provided by the Haryana Women Development Corporation. The interest charged by banks on the sanctioned loan is reimbursed to the beneficiary in the form of a subsidy, subject to a maximum limit of ₹50,000 or a period of three years, whichever is earlier. This provision significantly reduces the financial burden on widowed women and encourages them to opt for self-employment without fear of high interest liability.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta said that loans under the Widow Grant Scheme can be availed for a variety of self-employment ventures. These include dairy farming, auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw operations under the transport sector, and social and personal service activities such as running a salon or beauty parlour, tailoring, boutique, papad making, pickle manufacturing, sweet shop, food stall, ice-cream manufacturing unit, biscuit making, tiffin service, and stitching of school uniforms, among others. He added that the scheme is flexible and accommodates both traditional and modern livelihood options suited to local demand.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that interested widowed women can apply for the scheme by contacting the District Manager, Haryana Women Development Corporation, located in Room No. 224–225, District Development Bhawan, Rohtak. Assistance and guidance regarding application procedures are available at the office on all working days between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Applicants may also seek information by calling 01262-250164.
To avail the benefits of the Widow Grant Scheme, applicants are required to submit the prescribed documents along with their application. These include Ration Card, Family Identity Card (Parivar Pehchan Patra), Aadhaar Card, husband’s death certificate, residence certificate, passport-size photographs, and other relevant documents as prescribed. Applicants must submit two self-attested copies of each document to ensure smooth processing of their applications.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta appealed to all eligible widowed women to come forward and take advantage of this welfare scheme to become economically independent and self-reliant. He also directed concerned officers to ensure proper dissemination of information about the scheme so that maximum eligible beneficiaries can be covered.
