Unsung Women Warriors Find Their Voice in Azad Bharath

Mumbai (Anil Bedag): Roopa Iyer’s film Azad Bharath stands as a heartfelt tribute to the immortal legacy of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and the visionary formation of the Rani Jhansi Regiment. The film not only revisits the defining moments of India’s freedom struggle but also brings to light the stories of unsung women warriors whose contributions remained buried in history. At the heart of the narrative lies the inspiring journey of Neera Arya, emerging as a powerful symbol of courage, sacrifice and patriotism.

Produced by Zee Studios, Azad Bharath features Shreyas Talpade as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, while Suresh Oberoi essays the role of revolutionary freedom fighter Chhaju Ramji. The film is helmed by Roopa Iyer, who has taken on a rare triple responsibility as director, producer and lead actor, portraying Neera Arya. Adding a soulful dimension to the film, Amruta Fadnavis has lent her voice to the film’s anthem, elevating its emotional resonance.

Sharing her thoughts, Amruta Fadnavis said, “Azad Bharath is a beautiful film that presents the story of Neera Arya with great dignity and pride. Roopa Iyer wearing three hats as actor, director and producer in a single project is truly commendable. Suresh ji is an inspiration to all of us. I feel fortunate to have a small contribution in a prestigious project that honours the legacy of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. One of the most inspiring aspects of his legacy was empowering women through the formation of the Rani Jhansi Regiment. Neera Arya finds no mention in mainstream history, and I salute Roopa for bringing such untold stories to the forefront. The film releases on January 2, the same month in which we celebrate Netaji’s birth anniversary, making it a meaningful tribute.”

Director and lead actor Roopa Iyer expressed, “This film has been made with divine blessings guiding every step of the way — from selecting the cast to bringing the story to life. Shreyas ji’s versatility and ability to transform into any character made him the perfect choice to portray Netaji. Azad Bharath is a must-watch for today’s younger generation, who often feel dissatisfied despite having all comforts. This story is about Neera Arya, the Rani Jhansi Regiment and countless unsung heroes who, from a very young age, devoted themselves entirely to their motherland despite having nothing.”

Azad Bharath is all set for a worldwide release on January 2, 2026, coinciding with the month that marks Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 129th birth anniversary on January 23. With its powerful blend of patriotism, sacrifice and inspiration, the film promises to leave a lasting impact on audiences across generations.
