University Institute of Legal Studies PU Organises Induction Programme for 2026-31 Batch

Chandigarh, July 27, 2026: University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh organised the inaugural session of its week-long induction programme for the incoming batch of B.A. LL.B. (Honours) and B.Com. LL.B. (Honours) students (2026-31).
Under the guidance of Vice Chancellor PU Prof. Renu Vig, the inaugural session witnessed the presence of eminent dignitaries, including Editor, The Indian Express, Manraj Grewal; former IAS officer and motivational speaker, Vivek Atray; Secretary, Chandigarh Administration and Special Municipal Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, Harpreet Singh Sudan and Vice Chancellor, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (JGNDPSOU), Patiala, Prof. Rattan Singh.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Director, UILS PU, Prof. Shruti Bedi, who warmly welcomed the newly admitted students and emphasised the challenges and opportunities in the age of Artificial Intelligence, while encouraging the students to pursue legal education with dedication, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to serving society.
Delivering the special lecture, Manraj Grewal, spoke on the intersection of law and journalism, emphasising the importance of speaking truth to power. Vivek Atray inspired the students with his lecture, where he highlighted the importance of role models; in addition, he spoke extensively on developing life skills that are immensely helpful in leading a fruitful life.
In his address, Harpreet Singh Sudan, Secretary began his address by remembering his days that he had spent at UILS, especially the opportunities that the institute offers in building a successful life. He also highlighted the importance of lawyers in making justice accessible to society.
Concluding the inaugural session, Prof. Rattan Singh, emphasised that the academic environment of UILS prepares students for their upcoming professional lives. Referring to UILS as a nursery of the judiciary, he highlighted the importance of legal education in protecting the interests of the marginalised section of society.
The induction programme was coordinated by Prof. Jai Mala, Dr. Supreet Gill and Dr. Shafali. Through a series of lectures, discussions, and interactive sessions, the week-long programme aims to familiarise the incoming students with the academic environment, institutional culture, professional ethics, and diverse career opportunities in law.
