UILS, Panjab University, Hosts Week-long Induction Program for Incoming Law Students
The University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, conducted a comprehensive Orientation Program for the incoming batch of B.A./B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) students (2025–2026) from July 18th to 24th.

Chandigarh July 24, 2025: The University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, conducted a comprehensive Orientation Program for the incoming batch of B.A./B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) students (2025–2026) from July 18th to 24th.
The inaugural address was delivered by Guest of Honour, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) K.J.S. Dhillon, who shared profound insights on discipline, empathy, and the joy of meaningful work, drawing from his exemplary military career. Prof. Shruti Bedi, Director, UILS, warmly welcomed the new entrants, outlining the academic journey ahead and the transformative potential of legal education. Curated by Prof. Sabina Salim and Dr. Sunny Sharma, the program aimed to familiarise students with the academic environment, legal profession, and institutional culture.
Distinguished academic voices enriched the program throughout the week. An engaging interaction session with former IAS officer and motivational speaker Mr. Vivek Atray, who spoke on balancing ambition with joy and purpose, motivated the students.
Prof. Rattan Singh, Vice Chancellor, JGNDU Punjab State Open University, and former Director, UILS, spoke on the distinctiveness of UILS and the value of legal education.
An inspiring lecture was conducted by Professor Emeritus Dr. Ronki Ram, underscoring the importance of humanities in shaping legal imagination. Prof. Rupak Chakravarty introduced students to the principles of ethical legal research.
Prof. Rajinder Kaur, Dean, Faculty of Law, highlighted academic rigour in higher education. An insightful lecture on International Law was delivered by Prof. Jasmeet Gulati (O.P. Jindal Global Law School). Prof. Monika Negi’s lecture on Public Interest Lawyering and Dr. Nidhi Sharma’s lecture oriented students to criminal law, while Dr. Gurpreet Singh (PGIMER) addressed mental health and wellness.
Gender sensitisation was addressed by Prof. Gulshan Kumar, Prof. Navneet Kaur, and Dr. Supreet Gill. Alumni Mr. Jaideep Singh Lalli and Ms. Supriya Garg shared their experiences, followed by an introduction to UILS’ vibrant student committees. The induction program was marked by enthusiastic student participation and served as a meaningful initiation into legal academia and professional life.
