UIFT & VD, Panjab University, Organises Three-Day Knitting Workshop

Chandigarh, October 31, 2025: A three-day knitting workshop was organised by the Department of the University Institute of Fashion Technology and Vocational Development (UIFT & VD), Panjab University, Chandigarh, under the chairmanship of Prof Prabhdip Brar.

The workshop was addressed by Dr Ramandeep Bawa and Rakesh Kumar Singh, who brought with him over 25 years of rich industrial experience in the knitwear industry. Singh has worked as a designer and production manager with Vijee Jain Hosiery, Ludhiana, a renowned manufacturer of designer fabrics and garments. He has also served as a designer at Blue Mount, Ludhiana — one of the largest groups in knitting, garment manufacturing, and retail.

Further, he worked as a designer-cum-merchandiser with the popular kidswear brand Little Tomato (Gunnu Fashion, Faridabad), which has a strong presence in the domestic market with 25 outlets across major cities in India. In addition, he has been associated with Catmoss Apparel Ltd., Delhi, one of the top five kidswear brands in India, with over 100 outlets nationwide.

Alongside his vast industry background, Singh has also contributed to academia as a guest faculty member (Knitting Design) at NIIFT. Presently, he is the owner of Koti Kapish Design Institute.

The workshop provided students with an enriching hands-on learning experience. Over the course of three days, participants gained practical knowledge of knitting structures and techniques, enabling them to create and identify various types of knit patterns on V-bed flat knitting machines. The session proved to be highly engaging and educational, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practices.
