UIET, Panjab University Organises Cyber Awareness Programme for Students
The Department of Information Technology, University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, organized an interactive Cyber Awareness Outreach Programme under the aegis of the RUSA 2.0 Outreach and Public Engagement Initiative, aimed at sensitizing students about digital safety, emerging cyber threats and responsible internet usage.

Chandigarh, September 29, 2026: The Department of Information Technology, University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, organized an interactive Cyber Awareness Outreach Programme under the aegis of the RUSA 2.0 Outreach and Public Engagement Initiative, aimed at sensitizing students about digital safety, emerging cyber threats and responsible internet usage.
The programme comprised two focused sessions “Cyber Awareness for Children and Preventive Measures” for school students, organized in collaboration with Ankur School, Sector 14, and a cyber awareness session on "Emerging Cyber Threats, Digital Safety and Best Practices " for university students. The expert sessions were delivered by Digital Forensic Expert, Centre of Cyber Security and Operations (CenCOPS), Chandigarh Police, Urvashi Nag and System Programmer, NITTTR, Chandigarh, Amrendra Sharan.
Director, UIET, Prof. Sukhwinder Singh emphasized the need to create greater awareness about the risks and vulnerabilities associated with the increasing use of technology. Around 150 students participated in the programme. Through interactive discussions and real-life case studies, students were sensitized to cyber threats including digital arrest scams, OTP fraud, SIM-box devices, website vulnerabilities, social engineering and misuse of ethical hacking techniques. The experts also explained preventive measures and the procedure for reporting cybercrimes, stressing the importance of immediate reporting to minimize losses.
The programme was coordinated by Prof. Amandeep Verma and Prof. Mandeep Kaur, with Dr. Rajni Sobti and Dr. Sukhvir Singh as co-coordinators. The initiative reinforced the importance of cyber awareness, digital responsibility and safe online practices among young users.
