UGC launches Helpline for victims of ragging

Chandigarh, July 29, 2013: To rein in the scourge of Ragging in educational institutions, UGC has launched a helpline for the victims of Ragging.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesman said that the Punjab Government was committed to eradicate the scourge of Ragging from the universities/colleges/ technical educational institutes. He said that instruction had been issued to the technical education and education department to take strict action against the Raggers.

The spokesman said that the victims of Ragging could now dial a toll free number 1800-180-5522 and register their complaint or contact M/s Syrex Infoservices India Pvt.Ltd., J-1, Udyog Nagar, near DD Motors, Rohtak Road, Peera Garhi, New Delhi-110041 and website;www.antiragging.in.  He said that it had also made mandatory for the educational institutes to depute a nodal person, to whom the victims could contact for help. As per the instructions from UGC the educational institutes would now had to constitute a committee to check the menace of Ragging. He said that this committee would ensure that the recommendations of Supreme Court of India and Justice Ragwan Committee was duly adhered to.

He said that as per the instruction from UGC the entrants and their parents would now have to submit a self declaration mentioning in writing that they were against the Ragging. The heads of the educational institutions had also been empowered to initiate any action the Raggers. He said that in case any educational institute found guilty of not implementing the guidelines, strict action would be taken against it.
