Two years rigorous imprisonment to then Chief Law Assistant of Southern Railway and panel advocate in bribery case

New Delhi/Jalandhar, January 1, 2014: The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Madurai has convicted  M. Jeyasekar, the then Chief Law Assistant working in the office of the Divisional Personal Officer and T. Jayaraman, panel advocate of Southern Railways, Tiruchirapalli and sentenced  them to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with  a  fine of Rs. 20,000 each of them in a bribery case.

CBI had registered a case against M. Jeyasekar, the then Chief Law Assistant, working in the office of the Divisional Personal Officer and T. Jayaraman, panel advocate of Southern Railways, Tiruchirapalli on the allegations that they demanded a bribe of Rs. 13,000 from the complainant for processing the appointment file of the complainant on compassionate grounds in Southern Railways, Tiruchirapalli. During the investigation, a trap was laid, and both accused persons were caught red handed while demanding & accepting the bribe from the complainant. After completion of investigation, CBI filed chargesheet against the above  two accused persons before the Special Judge Court for CBI Cases, Madurai on 31.03.2010 under sections 120-B IPC r/w section 7 and 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The Trial Court found the accused persons guilty and convicted them.
