Ferozepur, August 19, 2021: Former Chief Parliamentary Sectary and two Times MLA from Ferozepur Sukhpal Singh Nannu today “goodbye” his party. It is pertinent to mention here that Nannu had won from Ferozepur city constituency twice as BJP candidate in 2002 and 2007 however he had lost to Congress’s Parminder Singh Pinky in 2012 and 2017.
While addressing the media persons at his residence, Nannu said that due to death of several farmers during the ongoing farmer’s agitation, his supporters were enraged and forcing him to take some decision ahead of 2022 polls.
Refuting all the speculations of joining SAD, Nannu said that he is not going to join any party right now. “I will only follow what my workers will say”, he added.
Meanwhile Anil Sareen Punjab BJP Spokesperson had come to persuade Nannu. He met Nannu in closed door meeting however Nannu resigned from the party.
Nannu alleged that State BJP President Ashwani Sharma should be held responsible for the present scenario. “The top leadership of Punjab did not present the right picture to the central high command. Since the time, the agri-laws were passed, I was the first one who opposed those bills”, said Nannu adding that in few states these agri-bills are beneficial while in other states like Punjab, these agri-laws are as destructive as a weapon.  
In an emotional tone, Nannu said that his father had joined the saffron party 54 years ago in the presence of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was a close aid of his father.
Earlier, Nannu had released a press note in which he had thanked his supporters for their unflinching love and support. Nannu said that though his supporters always stood by him like a rock but due to betrayal of some fellow BJP leaders, he could not win for the third consecutive time.
