Two freezes to death after slipping in snow near Billing

The bodies of a young man and a girl, who were missing since Monday in Billing Valley, world famous for paragliding, were recovered on Tuesday on one side of the walking path, three kilometre below the take off point.  After taking possession of both the bodies, the police handed them over to the relatives after conducting a post-mortem. It is suspected that the boy and girl died after slipping and falling in the snow.

Dharamshala, February 7, 2024: The bodies of a young man and a girl, who were missing since Monday in Billing Valley, world famous for paragliding, were recovered on Tuesday on one side of the walking path, three kilometre below the take off point. 
After taking possession of both the bodies, the police handed them over to the relatives after conducting a post-mortem. It is suspected that the boy and girl died after slipping and falling in the snow. 

The deceased have been identified as Abhinandan Gupta (30) s/o Anil Gupta Shivnagar, Pathankot and Pranita Wala (26) s/o Saheb Pune, Maharashtra.

Confirming this, Dalip Saklani, Police Chouki Incharge Beer said that both the young man and the girl had left for Billing in their private car on Sunday afternoon and after parking the car at number seven mode, they went on foot to the take off point at Billing. And, when both of them did not return on Monday, their friends informed the police about it. On Tuesday morning, the rescue team led by Rahul of the mountain pararescue team along with a police team recovered their bodies around 1:00 pm on one side of the footpath about 100-meter below the footpath. The young man was also accompanied by his pet German Shepherd dog which was barking loudly near both the dead bodies. The rescue team went in that direction only after hearing the sound of dog barking. According to the police the young man was living in a rented house near Chaugan in Beer for the last five years, while the girl had come to Beer a few days ago.

Kangra district ASP Veer Bahadur said   that in the prima facie it seems that both of them must have slipped in the snow and got injured and they died due to extreme cold. He said that the post mortem report will reveal the circumstances under which both the people died. It will be implemented only after the report comes.
