Two Day workshop on Lean Manufacturing held at NIE
Mysuru, March 18, 2019: A Two-day workshop on “Development of Production Efficiency through Lean Manufacturing” sponsored by TEQIP-III was organised by the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering, NIE, Mysuru recently. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr Srikanth K Narayan, Management Consultant, Bengaluru. The workshop mainly concentrated on lean principles to improve production efficiency in the manufacturing sector and the elimination of non-value added processes. Srinath K Narayan while interacting with the students discussed how lean drives industry 4.0, with a focus on lean manufacturing as a strategic initiative and highlighted lean’s path from tool-based improvements to an enabler of strategic goals and objectives. He also emphasised on the cultural change that is essential in sustaining lean and lean expectations in the realm of profitability, business growth and digitalization. The afternoon session was taken over by Mr Sudhir S V, a lean six sigma master black belt. Sudhir S V who believes in experiential learning, involved the students in a number of activities to help them understand the importance of teamwork, self-organization, planning, time management and process improvement. The day two session was handled by Dr Shivaprasad C.G, a senior faculty at HAL Management Academy. He started the session by giving an overview of lean at HAL. He explained how important it is to look into the value proposition while addressing customer needs. A number of activities were conducted from time to time to help students understand each topic clearly. He talked about lean tools and its implementation, constraint management and variability reduction through six sigma. By taking a number of case studies, he explained how lean six sigma methodology had helped HAL in huge savings. The students actively interacted and made the most out of the two-day workshop.
