Two Arrested in Dharamshala Doctor’s House Burglary; 15 Tolas of Gold, 1 kg Silver Recovered
The Kangra Police have achieved a major breakthrough in a high-value burglary case registered at Dharamshala Police Station by arresting two accused and recovering 15 tolas of gold and 1 kilogram of silver from the stolen property. The accused were produced before a court on Tuesday and, during police remand, allegedly confessed to their involvement in the theft. Further investigation is underway.
Dharamshala, July 7, 2026: The Kangra Police have achieved a major breakthrough in a high-value burglary case registered at Dharamshala Police Station by arresting two accused and recovering 15 tolas of gold and 1 kilogram of silver from the stolen property. The accused were produced before a court on Tuesday and, during police remand, allegedly confessed to their involvement in the theft. Further investigation is underway.
The case pertains to a burglary at the residence of Dr. Anjali Shrikant Chavan, a doctor at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, in Fatehpur, which falls under the jurisdiction of Dharamshala Police Station.
According to the complaint, the theft took place on the night of June 27–28, 2026, while Dr. Chavan was away from her residence. The burglars allegedly decamped with ancestral gold and silver jewellery, around 3–4 kilograms of silver ornaments, three mangalsutras, three pairs of gold earrings, a silver necklace, cash amounting to approximately ₹7,000–8,000, and the CCTV DVR.
Following the complaint, police immediately visited the spot, conducted a detailed inspection, and collected physical and forensic evidence. Based on the evidence gathered and sustained investigation, police detained a man and a woman, who later allegedly admitted to committing the crime.
The accused have been identified as Anju (55), and Chandan (27), both residents of Bengali Colony, Gaggal, in Kangra district.
Kangra Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma said the accused had allegedly sold a portion of the stolen jewellery to a Hamirpur-based jeweller, Vivek Kumar, a resident of Pratap Gali, Main Market, Hamirpur.
