Tree Plantation Drive Held At Basic Medical Science Block-I, Panjab University 

The Department of Microbiology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Northern Region S&T Cluster (PI-RAHI) and the Department of Biotechnology, today organised a Tree Plantation Drive under the nationwide campaign “Ek Ped: Maa Ke Naam 2.0”.

Chandigarh July 23, 2025: The Department of Microbiology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Northern Region S&T Cluster (PI-RAHI) and the Department of Biotechnology, today organised a Tree Plantation Drive under the nationwide campaign “Ek Ped: Maa Ke Naam 2.0”. 
Shri Navneet Kumar Srivastava, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Director DST, and CEO-CREST, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff, with around 100 saplings planted in the designated area.
In his address, Shri Srivastava (IFS) highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the Department of Forests, Chandigarh, to enhance the city’s green cover. He emphasised the importance of nurturing existing plantations alongside new ones and introduced an innovative approach of tagging plants with QR codes—a unique initiative aimed at tracking and maintaining the plantations. He also lauded Panjab University’s contributions across diverse spheres.
Prof. Rajat Sandhir, Director, PI-RAHI, and Prof. Naveen Gupta, Chairperson, Department of Microbiology, expressed interest in further strengthening collaborations with the Chandigarh Administration. 
The event was supported by the Department of Horticulture, Panjab University. A pledge to protect and nurture the planted saplings was led by Dr. Praveen Goel, NSS Incharge.
