Tree plantation drive commences at PU

Chandigarh: The Horticulture Division of Panjab University today organized a tree plantation at a ground in front of E1-30 to 34, Sector-14, P.U. Campus.
Prof. Raj Kumar,  Vice Chancellor  initiated the drive in the presence of Prof. S.K. Tomar, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Dean Student Welfare (Women), Prof. Ashwani  Koul, Chief of University Security, Er. Narinder Kumar and  Er. Lakhwinder Singh, SDEs, Prof. Yojna Rawat, Prof. Ganga Ram and some other eminent faculty members. Around 100 numbers of  trees of pilkhan, peepal, barghad, Neem, Kaner were planted at the occasion. The space will be  developed into 'Triveni Garden'.
PU VC appreciated the efforts of Horticulture Division and  a team of Prof. Yojna Rawat, Prof. Harish Kumar and Prof. Kamaljit Singh has been constituted to identify the places and suitable species to be planted in the campus. He further desired that residents from nearby areas be associated with plantations.
Er. Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer (H), said on this occasion that the plantation drive to be carried out during monsoon season has been initiated today under the kind patronage of the Vice Chancellor and the division will plant trees in this monsoon season to make campus greener and beautiful.
