Science City organized a seminar on the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Journalism

Kapurthala, September 12, 2025: Pushpa Gujral Science City organized a seminar on the “Role of Artificial Intelligence in Journalism” aimed at enhancing the skills of budding journalists in the field of science communication. More than 150 young journalists, students and faculty members from various Journalism and Mass Communication departments across Punjab participated in this event. The seminar provided a valuable platform for participants to deepen their understanding of emerging trends in science journalism and to explore how AI is reshaping the media landscape. Besides radio feature contest on “Climate Change: Impact and Challenges” was also organized on this occasion.
In his introductory remarks, Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director, PGSC, highlighted how Artificial Intelligence is transforming science, technology and communication. He said that AI speeds up data analysis, supports advanced simulations and automates routine tasks, thereby enhancing productivity and creativity. Dr. Grover also pointed out that AI is increasingly being used in journalism to save time and improve efficiency, however, he cautioned about challenges such as bias, data privacy and ethical concerns. He emphasized the need for proper training so that journalists can use AI responsibly in news reporting.
Daljit Ami, Director, Educational Multimedia Research Centre, Punjabi University Patiala delivered the keynote address. He explained how AI is changing journalism by transforming the way news is collected, verified and shared. He emphasized that while AI improves efficiency, human insight remains essential to ensure credibility and trust in news reporting.
In the radio feature contest Sakshi Bhadola from HMV College, Jalandhar, secured the first prize, while the second and third prizes were bagged by Lisha Luna and Eshita Sehgal, students of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Besides this, Yutika Walia from GNA University, Phagwara, received a consolation prize.
