The School of Communication Studies today held a training session on ‘Human Interest via Narrative Journalism’. The chief guests included Vishal Arora, Publisher and Director, Newsreel Asia, along with his team comprising Surabhi Singh, Harshita Rathore and Sunil Sharma. The session was held in partnership with the High Commission of Canada.

Chandigarh, February 11, 2026: The School of Communication Studies today held a training session on ‘Human Interest via Narrative Journalism’. The chief guests included Vishal Arora, Publisher and Director, Newsreel Asia, along with his team comprising Surabhi Singh, Harshita Rathore and Sunil Sharma. The session was held in partnership with the High Commission of Canada.
 
Vishal Arora began the session by explaining the difference between traditional journalism and narrative journalism, and went on to highlight how narrative journalism raises issues of human concern through its stories. He also explained confirmation bias, how people cherry-pick facts as per their own understanding, and the concept of narrative transportation.
 
The session concluded with the screening of an opinion documentary by The New York Times on the stigma and social pressure faced by Chinese women regarding marriage. This was followed by a question-and-answer session in which students raised queries about the relevance of narrative journalism in emergency situations and the career options in this field.
