Trainees imparted training in preparation of South Indian special recipes


Ludhiana, June 29, 2015: The Department of Food and Nutrition, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organised a short training course on “Cooking and Baking,” wherein about 40 trainees participated.

Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education, who was the chief guest, appreciated the efforts of the Department of Food and Nutrition in organizing the cooking course. He said it is important to inculcate a passion of cooking among the girls and the women. Such courses benefit a large number of trainees from time to time, he added. Dr (Mrs) Jatinder Kishtwaria, Dean, College of Home Science, distributed the certificates among the participants.

Dr Anita Kochhar, Professor and Head, Department of Food and Nutrition, provided tips on eating right for good health. She stated, “For mastering the art of cooking, practice is a time proven method.” The trainees were imparted training in the preparation of South Indian special recipes; gol-gappes, tikkis, and cream bhallas; baking of cakes and puddings; Italian special pizza, pasta and salads; cake icing; and Chinese recipes, she said. On the whole, practical training on 28 nutritious and delicious recipes based on sprouting, fermentation and baking along with various beverages and pudding were imparted to the participants during the course, she added.
