Traditional Education System takes us to the path of development: Prabhune  

New Delhi, February 10, 2023: "Basic education for nomadic students should be in their mother tongue, which fosters their interest towards the language." said eminent social worker and Padma Shri recipient Girish Prabhune at the Friday Dialogue organized by the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC). Regional directors, faculty members, and students from all IIMC Regional Centers were present on the occasion.

Expressing views on the topic ‘Nomadic Tribes of Bharat’, Shri Prabhune said that for the all-round development of the tribes, skill based training is being provided to the tribe's students through ‘Punaruththan Samarasata Gurukulam’ a residential school run through crowd funding and donations. Around 450 students from nomadic tribes are currently being trained in modern education as well as traditional art and knowledge.

Prabhune added that, along with a few like-minded people, he started Bhatake Vimukt Vikas Pratishthan in 1992. The Organisation helped in setting up abodes for the tribes, identifying open spaces in selected areas for the wandering tribes to set up their camps, standing up for them in case of false criminal and legal charges, providing schools to ensure continued education for their children, and liaising with philanthropic bodies and industrial houses for financial and/or material assistance.

The programme was moderated by Dr. Rajesh Kushwaha, Associate Professor, Amravati Campus, the welcome address was delivered by Prof. Pramod Kumar, HoD, Outreach Activities; and the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Dilip Kumar, Associate Professor, Jammu Campus.
