Jalandhar, February 23, 2019: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar's PG Department of Physics organized a 2 day National Symposium entitled “Nanostructured Materials: Structure, Properties and Applications”. The two day symposium was generously supported by four agencies i.e Materials Research Society of India (MRSI), Bangalore, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Mumbai, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) New Delhi and Gujarat Borosil Ltd. New Delhi. The concluding and the second day of symposium was dedicated to the session topic Ceramics and Glass. The day commenced with the invited talk by Dr. Ravi Kumar from NIT, Hamirpur. The topic of his talk was Materials engineering for Spintronics applications. During his talk, he discussed about Spintrons and also elaborated its applications in the talk. He elaborated characteristic features of Molybdenum oxides. He said that Molybdenum oxides exhibit a rich variety of structure and properties. The fifth session of the Symposium started with the invited talk by Dr. O.P Pandey (Thapar institute of Engineering and Technology). The topic of his discussion was Nano Molybdenum carbide Mo2C: An efficient electro catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and Super Capacitors. In the discussion, he mentioned that hydrogen production through electro catalytic water splitting has shown significant impact as a part of solution to sustainable and affordable zero emission energy source. The demand of cost-effective, high efficient and stable electro catalyst for overall electrochemical water-splitting is critical to renewable energy systems. The second invited talk for the fifth session was given by Dr.Sevi Murugavel (Delhi University). The topic of Dr.Sevi Murugavel was “Mesostructured Bioactive Glass and Glass-Ceramics for Bone Tissue Regeneration”. His research is based on the development of new biomaterials that stimulate bone tissue regeneration which is receiving great interest by the biomedical scientific community. Recent advances in nanoscience and nanotechnology have allowed the design of biomaterials with mesostructure. These materials can promote new bone formation by inducing the nanocrystalline apatite analogues to the mineral phase of natural bone tissue bio mineralization process. The final session of the Symposium was hosted by Dr.Atul Khanna (Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar). The title of his talk was “Structure, thermal and photo luminescent properties of tellurite glasses and anti-glasses”. During the discussion, he stressed that several heavy metal oxide tellurite systems shows an intriguing influence of the melt temperature on the GFA of the material, which indicates the possibility of liquid–liquid transitions in the tellurite systems. In his talk an overview of structure-property relationship studies on several tellurite systems by X-ray diffraction, neutron diffraction, Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy was presented.
Principal Prof. ( Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the Department Of Physics for taking the initiative to organize NSNM-19 and averred that these types of symposiums are a great way to promote the quality research among the students as well as the faculty members in the college. She also thanked all the Resource Persons for their contribution in making this National Symposium a grand success.
