Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026: Panjab University records improvement across all key parameters for the third consecutive year
Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, has once again improved across all key indicators in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, retaining its position in the prestigious 601–800 global rank band among leading institutions of higher learning worldwide. PU was ranked in 801–1000 bracket in 2024 THE World University Rankings.

Chandigarh, October 9, 2025: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, has once again improved across all key indicators in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, retaining its position in the prestigious 601–800 global rank band among leading institutions of higher learning worldwide. PU was ranked in 801–1000 bracket in 2024 THE World University Rankings.
The 2026 edition of THE World University Rankings was declared today, which assessed 2,091 universities from 115 countries through an expanded set of parameters covering Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry Engagement, and International Outlook.
PU demonstrated notable advancement in its overall academic and research profile, with strong performance in Research Quality (71.2) and Industry Engagement (48.3) — key indicators reflecting the university’s growing research visibility, innovation ecosystem, and real-world impact. The Teaching parameter stood at 38.2, while Research Environment and International Outlook scored 19.6 and 24.6 respectively, signalling continued improvement in faculty research productivity and global collaborations.

Expressing satisfaction over the university’s improved performance in all parameters, PU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Renu Vig said, “The data clearly highlights PU’s consistent rise across various parameters underlining the university’s enhanced contribution to global research and innovation. The upward trend in Teaching and Research Environment indicators highlights steady progress in academic delivery, research culture, and institutional capacity.”
Appreciating the efforts of the faculty, staff, students, and research scholars, Prof. Vig added, “On the global and national front, PU is consistently improving its performance in different parameters of all rankings. We are focusing on student-centric initiatives, which have resulted in PU advancing into the 601–800 bracket in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 (up from 801–1000 in 2023) and moving from the QS 2025 ranking band of 1001–1200 to the 901–950 bracket in the QS World University Rankings 2026, as well as securing third place among state public universities in the NIRF ranking.”
Prof. Vig further stated that the university is already working to further improve its ranking to align with India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and further enhance PU’s global standing.
