Jalandhar, August 26, 2026: A training programme on Aquifer Mapping, Groundwater Conservation, Groundwater Quality, and Sustainable Water Management was organised at the college with experts from the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), North Western Region, Chandigarh. The programme was graced by Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal and Chief Guest, Vidya Nand Negi, Scientist-D, CGWB, CGWB experts, faculty members, and students.
The programme commenced with a Welcome Address by Akshata Verma, who highlighted the importance of groundwater as a vital natural resource supporting agriculture, industries, households, and livelihoods. She emphasised the urgent need for conservation in view of declining groundwater levels, particularly in Punjab and Haryana.
The technical sessions began with “Groundwater: An Invisible but Vital Resource: Basics”, delivered by Sh. Sudhanshu Bajpai, Scientist, CGWB, who explained the importance, occurrence, and management of groundwater resources. Priyanka, Scientist, CGWB, discussed the Groundwater Scenario of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, highlighting the challenges of declining groundwater levels and the need for judicious use. Narender Kumar, Scientist, CGWB, conducted a session on “Groundwater Quality and Safe Drinking Water Practices,” focusing on groundwater quality, contamination, and safe drinking-water practices.
Following the lunch break, Sunil Kumar, Scientist, CGWB, conducted a session on “Water Conservation, Artificial Recharge and Rainwater Harvesting (RWH), and the Role of Youth in Sustainable Water Management.” The session highlighted practical measures for water conservation, rainwater harvesting, and artificial recharge, while emphasising the role of youth in promoting sustainable water-use practices. The programme concluded with a valedictory function and certificate distribution.
The Principal, Prof. Sudha Katyal appreciated the efforts of the organisers, experts, faculty, and students and emphasised that students can become ambassadors of water conservation by spreading awareness about judicious water use, rainwater harvesting, prevention of water pollution, and sustainable practices in their communities.
