Dharamsala: In view of the continues rise in the Covid cases in India in the last few days ,The President of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), Dr. Lobsang Sangay appealed to the Tibetans in the country  to take rigorousprecaution, “What we need now is a collective and coordinated effort to breakthe chain.” The Tibetan government-in-exile has called for a seven-day lockdownin all Tibetan settlements across India from 10 to 16 May.

The CTA President further said that the Tibetan administration headquarters on yesterday has recordeda total of 164 Tibetan cases of covid  inDharamshala, which is also the residence of exiled Tibetan leader Dalai Lama. Dr.Sangayalso issued an urgent appeal to all the settlement offices to begin efforts forthe procurement of vaccines for all adults under their jurisdictions. TheTibetan Cabinet in Exile  has allocated an additional budget of 100 lakhrupees to be used for Covid-19 management and relief in the settlements acrossIndia. The Tibetan community has recorded over 484 new Covid-19 cases and8 deaths over the past one  week, takingthe total tally of coronavirus infections to 2,934 cases and death toll to 61.According to the CTA, there are 1,069 active positive cases among Tibetans inIndia. Meanwhile,the HP government has vaccinated around 60 media persons of Tibetan Communityin Dharamsala on Saturday. 30 staff members of the Department ofInformation & International Relations CTA were also vaccinated.The government of Himachal Pradesh has recently announced media persons asfrontline workers and consequently the health department initiated avaccination program for all the media persons in Himachal Pradesh. Over one hundred media persons are vaccinated here during a special camp at the Mini Secretariat Dharamsala on Saturday where Indian and Tibetan media persons receive thefirst Jab of Covishield vaccine. All media persons including Press Club Dharamsala and Association of Tibetan journalists and Central Tibetan Administration express their gratitude towards the government of Himachal Pradesh and for recognizing them as frontline workers. They all thank district administration for organizing special camps for media persons.
