Three PhD scholars from the Kashmir Valley enrolled with Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) have been selected for the Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF).

Srinagar, Nov 21 (IANS) Three PhD scholars from the Kashmir Valley enrolled with Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) have been selected for the Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF).

The research scholars are Shah Mushir Alam Patan from Khejipura in Kulgam district, Sakina Musrat from Baramulla and Mudassar Younis Sufi from Wahbag village in Pulwama district, all pursuing their PhD in the Department of Physics at JMI.

These three scholars have been selected for the fellowship because of their exemplary performance and outstanding research. The selection is done through a rigorous evaluation process by IIT Madras.

Under this scheme, each scholar will be given a monthly stipen of Rs 70,000 for the first two years, Rs 75,000 for the third year and Rs 80,000 for the fourth and fifth years. They will also get a total research grant of Rs 10 lakh.

Mudassar Younis' ancestral home in Wehbag is crowded with people now. His neighbours and relatives are all congratulating Mudassar's parents, hailing his a source of pride not only for his village, but for the entire district.

Mudassar said that the fellowship has not only made his dream come true, but also made his village as well as Pulwama district famous.

A former teacher of Mudassar told mediapersons that he always had a special passion for science, especially physics, which took him to where he is today.
