Three-Day DCHB Training Programme for Rural Field Functionaries Successfully Conducted in Ludhiana District

Ludhiana, July 30, 2026: Under the guidance of Himanshu Jain, Principal Census Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, and Sikha Bhagat, District Census Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, a three-day training programme for the Rural Field Functionaries of all seven rural Tahsils of Ludhiana District under the District Census Handbook (DCHB)-2027 was successfully conducted from July 28-30.
The training programmes were organised at School of Eminence (SOE), Samrala; Bachat Bhawan, Ludhiana; and District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Jagraon.
The training was imparted by Dr. Ruchi Gupta, Deputy Director, Ankush Sharma, Statistical Investigator Grade-I, Alok Kumar, Statistical Investigator Grade-II & District Coordinator, and Amanpreet Singh, Junior Executive, from the Directorate of Census Operations, Punjab. More than 220 Field Functionaries participated in the training programme.
During the sessions, participants were provided with detailed information regarding the objectives, importance, scope and timelines of DCHB-2027, with special emphasis on the Village Directory. A comprehensive practical demonstration of the Village Directory Module on the DCHB Web Portal was conducted. Participants were also guided on the use of the DCHB Mobile Application, which was installed on their mobile phones to facilitate hands-on practice before the commencement of the 30-day field work scheduled from 10 August 2026.
The training sessions were highly interactive, and all queries and doubts raised by the participants were addressed comprehensively by the team of trainers.
On the occasion, the trainers from the Directorate of Census Operations, Punjab emphasized the importance of accurate, timely and quality data collection for the preparation of the District Census Handbook-2027. They highlighted that the DCHB is an important reference document for planners, administrators, policymakers and researchers, and plays a vital role in evidence-based planning and decision-making.
The District Administration extended full cooperation for the smooth and successful conduct of the three-day training programme, ensuring that all necessary arrangements were made for the effective training of the Field Functionaries.
