Chandigarh, April 9, 2026: In a powerful fusion of high-fashion aesthetics and environmental consciousness, the University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development (UIFT), Panjab University, presented “The Green Edit Runway 26.” This sustainable-themed fashion show showcased student-led garments that demonstrated how style and sustainability can seamlessly coexist on the modern stage.
The event was held under the leadership of Prof. Prabhdip Brar, Chairperson, UIFT & VD, and coordinated by Dr. Kirti Sheoran. The runway seamlessly blended sustainability with innovation and traditional craftsmanship, redefining fashion as a medium for responsible expression. The faculty in-charges supported the execution, with modelling and makeup managed by Dr. Parneet Brar and decoration handled by Ms. Gargi Kharbanda.
Redefining the Runway: Three Pillars of Design
Upcycled Innovation: Students transformed discarded materials, including thrifted clothing, worn-out jeans, old jewellery, and ties, into wearable art. These pieces demonstrated the beauty of "reborn" materials, turning the obsolete into the avant-garde.
Artisanal Surface Ornamentation: Merging heritage with innovation, the runway featured techniques such as patchwork, appliqué, and Kantha work. Fabric scraps were elevated into striking design elements, while organic palettes were introduced through tie-dye and natural dyes.
Conscious Material Choices: Highlighting the versatility of earth-friendly textiles, students utilised Khadi, Khadar, linen, and bamboo. The collection even featured experimental elements like tree bark, showcasing the creative potential of nature-inspired textiles.
