Chandigarh, September 16, 2026: Government Home Science College, Sector-10, Chandigarh, inaugurated its much-awaited Tex-Style Week 2026 on 14 September, with great enthusiasm and active student participation. The week-long celebration features a series of engaging activities, competitions and workshops designed to offer students meaningful opportunities for experiential learning, skill enhancement, creative expression and professional development in textiles, fashion and design.
The inaugural day began with a Peer Learning Workshop on Fabric Rendering, conducted by Ms. Sharishti and Ms. Aarushi, students of M.Sc. Clothing and Textiles (3rd Semester). Attended by both U.G. and P.G. students of the department, the workshop focused on developing fabric texture rendering skills, creative visualisation and effective presentation of design concepts.
Later in the day, a Workshop on Natural Dyeing was led by Ms. Pooja, an esteemed alumna of the college who currently serves as Personal Assistant to the Deputy Director (Sports), Punjab. She introduced students to the traditional art of natural dyeing through an interactive demonstration that encouraged exploration of sustainable practices using natural dyes.
A major highlight of the day was the Saree Draping Competition, which showcased participants’ styling skills in traditional Indian draping techniques and drew enthusiastic participation.
Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal appreciated the sincere efforts of the Department of Clothing & Textiles in organising the event and providing students with enriching academic and co-curricular experiences. She encouraged students to participate actively in the forthcoming activities of Tex-Style Week and to make full use of these platforms to enhance their creative and professional skills.
