Hyderabad, May 21 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday demanded the Centre hold an immediate special session of the Parliament on 33 per cent women's reservation in legislative bodies.

Paying rich tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary, the Chief Minister said that the INDIA bloc is ready to support women reservation bill in the Parliament.

He said the Modi government created hurdles in the implementation of women's reservation by linking it to delimitation of Parliamentary constituencies and demanded that the women's reservation bill not be politicised.

The CM emphasised that women's reservation in the legislative bodies should be enacted with the inspiration of Rajiv Gandhi, who introduced women's quota in local bodies for their political empowerment.

Terming Rajiv Gandhi a great leader who sacrificed his life for the nation, he remembered the yeoman services rendered by the former Prime Minister.

Calling the late leader a great visionary, he said it was Rajiv Gandhi who introduced information technology to the nation and earned it global recognition.

"It was Rajiv Gandhi who ushered in the era of technology in the country and also steered the country onto the path of development through liberalised policies," he said.

Revanth Reddy claimed that the “People's Government” in Telangana was following the ideals of Rajiv Gandhi for the empowerment of women.

The Congress leader said the Gandhi family made many sacrifices for the country.

He also recalled that Sonia Gandhi took a courageous decision to fulfil the dream of a separate Telangana state.

He stated that Telangana is maintaining an inseparable bond with the Gandhi family. The relationship between the Gandhi family and the Telangana people was more than a family. People will remember and cherish the Gandhi family as long as Telangana exists, he said.

The Chief Minister garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi near the State Secretariat. State ministers and senior Congress leaders attended the event.
