Teachers seek immediate repair of Ferozepur–Kacha Zira road, warn of protest

Ferozepur, July 27, 2026: Expressing concern over the deteriorating condition of the Ferozepur City–Kacha Zira Road up to Asal railway crossing, representatives of various government and private school teachers' organisations on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, demanding immediate reconstruction of the stretch.
The memorandum was handed over to Superintendent Rajwinder Kaur on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner. Teacher leaders said the road has become increasingly unsafe, causing severe inconvenience to thousands of daily commuters and posing a constant risk of serious accidents.
They pointed out that several portions of the road have been badly damaged, with deep potholes making travel hazardous. During the monsoon, the potholes get submerged, making it difficult for motorists to judge the road condition and significantly increasing the chances of accidents.
The organisations said the road is used daily by thousands of students, teachers and staff of several educational institutions, including Kerala Convent School, DCMI School, Government Senior Secondary School Khushal Singh Wala, Government Primary and Middle School Asal, Guru Ram Dass Public School Shahdinwala, Government Senior Secondary School Lumbriwala, Government Senior Secondary School Sher Khan and other nearby schools.
Describing the issue as a matter of public safety, the teachers said the damaged road not only delays students and staff from reaching schools on time but also endangers lives. They warned that if repair work is not initiated immediately, any major accident would be the responsibility of the Punjab Government and the district administration.
Through the Deputy Commissioner, the organisations urged the Punjab Government and the concerned department to begin reconstruction of the road without further delay to ensure safe and hassle-free travel for students, teachers and the general public.
The teachers also warned that if their demand is ignored, they would be compelled to launch an agitation. Prominent teacher leaders, including Harjit Singh Sidhu, Sarabjit Singh Bhawra, Paramjit Singh Pamma, Vinod Gupta, Manreet Singh, Dr Sumit Harwani, Avtar Singh, Gurwinder Singh Matharu, Tarsem Lal, Tajinder Kaur Sodhi and others, were present on the occasion.
