Teachers recruited through DSC hold rally in Vijayawada to counter allegations

Vijayawada, Aug 16 (IANS) Amid the raging controversy over alleged irregularities in Mega DSC-2025 recruitment for 16,347 teaching posts in Andhra Pradesh, selected candidates on Sunday organised a rally in Vijayawada, condemning the allegations. 

The newly recruited teachers from erstwhile West Godavari, Krishna, and Prakasam districts participated in the rally from the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium to the Ambedkar Smriti Vanam.

The participants alleged that they were being insulted by the allegations and demanded opposition YSR Congress Party stop its ‘vicious’ campaign.

The teachers claimed that they were selected on the basis of merit and, following their hard work, they alleged that they were being humiliated with "baseless" allegations.

Holding placards raising slogans, about 5,000 participants took part in the rally.

At Ambedkar Smriti Vanam, they kept a representation at Ambedkar’s statue, praying to him to give wisdom to YSR Congress Party leaders.

The protestors demanded that the YSRCP stop making allegations, as this was hurting their ‘self-respect’.

Teachers recruited under Mega DSC-2025 already held similar protests in Kurnool, Tirupati, and other districts.

The YSRCP and a section of candidates have alleged irregularities in the conduct of the examination, merit lists, certificate verification, horizontal reservation, and the sports quota.

Last week, the YSRCP staged a series of protests across the state demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged irregularities in DSC and resignation of Education Minister Nara Lokesh.

As many as 335 cases have been filed in courts concerning various aspects of the recruitment process. These include 69 cases related to the Sports Quota. Three cases have been filed in the Supreme Court.

The YSRCP has questioned the departure from the earlier practice of entrusting question-paper preparation to the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and examination conduct to the DSC Convenor.

YSRCP MLC Parvathareddy Chandrasekhar Reddy filed a PIL in the High Court seeking a CBI probe. He argued that assigning both functions to SCERT compromised the transparency of the recruitment process.

The School Education Department, however, denied the allegations. It claimed that the recruitment was conducted through a technology-driven and rule-based process.

It attributed several of the complaints to individual grievances and differences in the interpretation of the revised horizontal reservation methodology.
