Teachers Day: What It Means To Me

Teachers Day dawns upon us every year on September 05. The day indeed is very very significant. Why is it so because it is day of deep introspection for all of us to look within, KNOW THYSELF should also be our watchword this day instead of hollow sermonising and optics galore. What can the teachers do more and more practically to ameliorate the plight of society declining and degenerating, day in and day out is the theme today to ponder over seriously too?

Teachers Day dawns upon us every year on September 05. The day indeed is very very significant. Why is it so because it is day of deep introspection for all of us to look within, KNOW THYSELF should also be our watchword this day instead of hollow sermonising and optics galore. What can the teachers do more and more practically to ameliorate the plight of society declining and degenerating, day in and day out is the theme today to ponder over seriously too?
Teachers are the backbone of any nation anywhere in the world hence it is worth emulating, following the footprints of our guiding star Dr.S.Radhakrishanan to add grace and glory to the teaching profession in the letter and spirit.
I remember on this day all my revered teachers expressing my deep sense of gratitude to them for their dedication and devotion to guide the destiny of a large number of their students.
I am haunted by an incident too of self-respect and dignity too connected with a teacher's confidence sharing with you. Not naming the institution, city and characters, a deputation of members of a private college management and a few faculty members called upon a Deputy Commissioner for patronage and help to the college. The Deputy Commissioner did not treat them well during the meeting. One Professor of English in the deputation getting annoyed stood up and very dauntlessly asserted: " We Professors produce DCs but you DCs cannot produce Professors."
Subjectively, the management may not have liked this act of the Professor but it certainly was a daring act then to move out of the DC's office. There can be many more such unsung tales but this one deserves accolades an instance of redeeming one's self- respect and dignity.
Summing up, I cannot help remembering father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi as an experimenting teacher while in South Africa who remarked thus: A teacher indeed is a living book.
