Bengaluru, August 13, 2025: Tata Steel has published Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for 3 flat steel products, namely: Steel Slab, Cold Rolled Closed Annealed (CRCA) Steel, and Galvanised Steel. This reinforces the Company’s commitment to transparency, sustainability and to serve its customers with product and sustainability information.
EPD, classified as a Type III eco-label, is an independently verified and registered document that communicates transparent and comparable information about the life-cycle environmental impacts of a product.
Rajiv Mangal, Vice President - Safety, Health & Sustainability, Tata Steel, said: “The steel industry plays a critical role in shaping a more sustainable future. This EPD reflects our proactive approach to transparency and accountability, providing our customers with the verified data to make informed purchasing decisions. EPDs are an important validation tool both for manufacturers and customers. In response to the growing emphasis on sustainability, we are working to publish EPDs for a broader range of our products.”
EPDs are widely adopted in the green building and construction materials sector to disclose the embodied carbon of products. They also contribute to earning credit points in green building certification systems by supporting sustainability performance assessments.
This EPD is based on a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study carried out in accordance with international standards - ISO 14025, EN15804, ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.
Tata Steel had published its first EPD in 2022 for Steel Reinforcing Bar (Rebar) used in Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) construction. In Europe, the Company has produced over 50 Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its construction sector customers – a milestone in environmental impact transparency and reporting.
