Tarun Chugh welcomes Rs. 4500 crore allocation for SCL Mohali
Urges Punjab Government to allot 25 acres immediately
Chandigarh, November 28, 2025: BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh today hailed the Modi Government’s decision to allocate Rs. 4500 crore for the upgradation of SCL Mohali and to develop it into a world-class semiconductor centre. Chugh said the project marks a defining moment for India’s semiconductor mission and will place Punjab firmly on the global technology map. He said the initiative would open vast new opportunities for Punjabis and for youth across neighbouring states to achieve scientific and technological excellence.
Chugh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid out a clear and ambitious vision to build world-class semiconductor capabilities within the country, and SCL Mohali is central to that vision. He emphasised that the Union Government has categorically assured that SCL will not be privatised and will remain a critical national institution driving India’s semiconductor future.
Chugh said the Rs. 4500 crore modernization plan includes a major expansion of wafer production capacity, creation of new FAB infrastructure, and advanced training support for students, researchers and start-ups. He said the project offers Punjab an unprecedented opportunity to participate in the next generation of high-tech manufacturing and innovation.
Urging the Punjab Government to act without delay, Chugh said that the state must immediately allot 25 acres of land to SCL so that the modernization work can proceed unhindered. He said the Punjab Government must execute all its responsibilities swiftly, including land allocation and related support, to ensure that such a nationally important facility does not face needless delays.
Chugh said it is time for the Bhagwant Mann government, led by Arvind Kejriwal, to start taking national interest and the future of Punjab’s youth seriously. He said the Modi Government has already drawn a new blueprint of opportunities and scientific growth for Punjab, and the state government must extend full cooperation instead of standing in the way of the state’s progress.
Chugh added that BJP Punjab will formally raise this demand to ensure timely development of SCL Mohali and to secure Punjab’s rightful place in the global semiconductor value chain.
