Mumbai (Anil Bedag): In an industry where big-budget films are often associated with expensive cameras, elaborate sets, and massive production setups, actor Tanuj Virwani has chosen a different path with his experimental thriller Naash. In a remarkable creative endeavour, he has not only written, produced, and directed the film but has also taken charge of its release. What makes the project particularly intriguing is that the entire film was shot on an iPhone, making it an interesting experiment in independent filmmaking.
Through Naash, Tanuj has attempted to demonstrate that compelling storytelling and creative vision do not always require an elaborate filmmaking infrastructure. Parts of the film were shot at his farmhouse in Lonavala, as well as in Kerala and Hong Kong. The thriller sequences filmed at night added another layer of complexity to the project, making the experiment even more challenging.
Speaking about his creative experiment, Tanuj says, “I wanted to experiment with this medium and see how far we could go creatively by shooting an entire film on an iPhone.”
For Tanuj, Naash is more than just a film. It is also an attempt to strengthen his identity as an independent filmmaker, expanding his creative horizons beyond acting. By bringing together technology, passion, and experimentation, he has conveyed a powerful message: the true strength of cinema lies not merely in the camera, but in the imagination behind it and the art of storytelling.
