‘Tandoor’ Opens a New Chapter in Nivedita Basu’s Directorial Journey
Some projects are more than just professional assignments; they become defining milestones that remain etched in one’s memory forever. For Nivedita Basu, Tandoor was one such project. Amid the challenging circumstances of the lockdown, the series brought her back to the director’s chair and marked the beginning of a new chapter in her OTT directorial journey. Completing the series with a limited crew, stringent safety protocols and numerous challenges was an achievement in itself.

Mumbai (Anil Bedag): Some projects are more than just professional assignments; they become defining milestones that remain etched in one’s memory forever. For Nivedita Basu, Tandoor was one such project. Amid the challenging circumstances of the lockdown, the series brought her back to the director’s chair and marked the beginning of a new chapter in her OTT directorial journey. Completing the series with a limited crew, stringent safety protocols and numerous challenges was an achievement in itself.
The success of Tandoor also brought recognition to the hard work behind the project. The series received nominations at the Filmfare OTT Awards in major categories, including Best Series, Best Actor and Best Actress. What made the experience even more special for Nivedita was the opportunity to work with her old friends Tanuj Virwani and Rashami Desai, while her collaboration with Chitra Vakil Sharma and Chandni Soni evolved into a meaningful creative partnership. Music, too, became an integral part of the storytelling.
Nivedita Basu says, “‘Tandoor’ was not just my OTT debut; it was also my return to the art I had trained for and always deeply loved. The lockdown tested all of us, but it taught us that great stories are not created by facilities and conveniences alone—they are born from conviction, passion and dedication.”
Tandoor ultimately became an example of how even the most difficult circumstances cannot stand in the way of passion and a powerful story.
