Chandigarh January 24, 2023: Institute of Social Sciences Education and Research (ISSER), P.U. successfully conducted the first day of the Symposium on the theme- "Science, Technology and Health: New Frontiers" today.
 
Prof. Rajat Sandhir, Department of Biochemistry, P.U. was the key speaker for the first session of the day and had a highly interactive talk with the students on the topic- "Nature's Masterpiece: THE BRAIN". Referring to brain and muscles' usage, Prof. quoted, "Use it or lose it" and gave various insights into the realm of functioning of the brain of humans and even other animal species.
 
Dr. K.P. Singh, Director Endocrinology, Fortis hospital, Mohali, was the key speaker for the second session of the day on the topic- "Metabolic Diseases- Diabetes, Obesity, CVD: A burden on health resources". Dr. Singh stressed upon the serious problem of Asia being the diabetes and obesity capital of the world and also the ever increasing mortality rate due to diabetes in India, which is expected to have a fourfold increase by 2045.
 
Both the experts answered the students' questions and assured guidance through connectivity beyond the symposium too. Prof. Seema Vinayak, Coordinator, PU-ISSER, expressed gratitude of the key speakers of today's sessions.
