Mumbai, November 05, 2025: Celebrating global exchange and intellectual excellence, the Swedish Consul General Sven Östberg hosted an exclusive dinner reception to honour two distinguished Nobel Laureates: Professor James A. Robinson and Professor David W.C. MacMillan, who visited the city for the Nobel Prize Dialogue event.
The elegant evening at the Swedish Residence in Mumbai brought together esteemed guests from academia, diplomacy, and industry who welcomed the Laureates for their exceptional work on the political and economic foundations of prosperity and pioneering research in science and medicine.
The reception was graced by Jayakumar Jitendrasinh Rawal, Minister for Marketing and Protocol in the Government of Maharashtra, who addressed the esteemed gathering with warm words of welcome. This was followed by remarks from Hanna Stjärne, Executive Director of the Nobel Foundation, who highlighted the significance of scientific dialogue in addressing global challenges.
The evening was also attended by the Swedish Ambassador to India, Jan Thesleff, alongside heads of leading Indian and Swedish companies. Additionally, the presence of Elli Avram, the renowned Swedish-born Bollywood actor, added a touch of cinematic charm to the celebration.
The Consul General also reflected on his journey as a Nobel attaché in Stockholm 25 years ago, sharing how the experience shaped his understanding of the Nobel Prize’s core values, including innovation, fairness, and global collaboration. He emphasized that these principles continue to resonate significantly in today’s world, especially in cities like Mumbai that thrive on connection, ideas, culture, and ambition.
India and Sweden share a longstanding friendship rooted in mutual respect and democratic values.
