Ludhiana, June 29, 2026: A swallowed denture, lodged in a patient's food pipe was removed by doctors at Livasa Hospital Khanna through an advanced therapeutic endoscopy by preventing the need for surgical intervention.
A 45-year-old male patient was brought to Livasa with an accidental denture ingestion. Upon evaluation, an urgent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy was performed by Dr. Pulkit Dhiman, consultant gastroenterologist, which revealed the denture impacted in the mid-esophagus (food pipe).
Using advanced endoscopic techniques, Dr. Dhiman carefully maneuvered the foreign body into the stomach and subsequently retrieved it with a specialized Roth net, ensuring safe removal without any complications.
The patient recovered well following the procedure.
Dr. Dhiman said: “Accidental ingestion of dentures can be a medical emergency as they may become lodged in the food pipe and lead to serious complications such as perforation, infection, or obstruction. Early medical attention and timely endoscopic intervention are critical. Advanced therapeutic endoscopy allows us to safely remove such foreign bodies in most cases, helping patients avoid invasive surgery and ensuring faster recovery.”
