Sutlej Embankment Under Stress Near Sasrali, Several Villages in Ludhiana Put on High Alert

Ludhiana, September 5, 2025: The District Administration, Ludhiana, has issued an urgent public information advisory after reporting that the embankment of the Sutlej River near village Sasrali (Ludhiana East Zone) is under severe stress due to heavy water flow. Authorities are making continuous efforts to protect and strengthen the embankments, but in case of a breach, several nearby villages face the risk of submergence.
The vulnerable villages include Sasrali, Boont, Rawat, Hawas, Seeda, Boothgarh, Mangli Tanda, Dheri, Khawajke, Khasi Khurd, Mangli Kadar, Mattewara, Mangat, and Meharban.
Safety Instructions for Residents
•    Stay on high alert and monitor the situation closely.
•    Residents of two-storeyed houses are advised to remain on the first floor for safety.
•    Those living in low-lying or single-storey houses should vacate temporarily and shift to safer areas.
•    Keep important documents and belongings in waterproof bags for immediate evacuation if necessary.
•    Elderly persons, children, and sick family members should be moved to safe places first.

The District Administration has appealed to the public to follow instructions from officials, police, and disaster management teams without delay.
“The safety of residents is our top priority, and cooperation of the people is essential to prevent any loss of life or property,” the administration said in its statement.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian and Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain supervised strengthening of Dhussi Bandh in Sasrali village. They made an appeal to people not to believe in rumours. They said the Administration, Indian Army, NDRF and villagers are working round the clock here.
