Surajkund International Crafts Mela- An experience by UIFT students

Chandigarh, February 21, 2023: University Institute of Fashion Technology and Vocational Development (UIFT&VD), Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a one-day educational trip to Suraj Kund International Crafts Mela, Faridabad for B.Sc. Fashion and Lifestyle Technology students from Semester 2 and 4 to give a rich exposure and experience to design students. 

The Surajkund Crafts Mela is the one of the largest crafts fairs in the world, showcasing the richness and variety of Indian handicrafts and handloom textiles. 50 students accompanied by four teachers travelled to this wonderful international crafts fair. Students learned about the handicrafts of several states and saw innovative textiles, techniques and crafts created by recognized award-winning artisans. They got chance to interact with many artisans of different states of India. Crafts showcased in the international pavilion also helped the students to get an in-depth knowledge not only about national as well as international handicrafts and textiles. In addition, they experienced traditional dance performances and culturally diverse cuisine. This experience will aid students in recognizing the fabrics, textiles, and handicrafts of several states, enhancing their fabric manipulation and design abilities.
