Rohtak, October 7, 2026: A Haryanvi documentary on the internationally acclaimed Surajkund International Crafts Mela has brought laurels to the students and alumni of Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA), Rohtak.

Titled Surajkund Shilp Mela, the 30-minute documentary was screened among 36 films from India and abroad at the fifth International Tourism Short Film Festival held in Pune. The film has been produced by Cinematic Haryana Film Production.

SUPVA alumni and faculty have played key roles in the project. Ashish Nehra, a 2011 Bachelor in Direction alumnus and currently Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Film and Television (FTV), has lent his voice to the documentary. Neeraj Rohilla, a 2012 Bachelor in Audiography alumnus and currently a lab technician at FTV, handled sound design and mixing. Sound recording was done by Mohit, a 2021 Bachelor in Audiography student.

The documentary has been directed by Puneet Sharma and produced by Nisha Sharma, with the script penned by Tejas Poonia and editing by Shaurya Bhati.

It was the first documentary on the Surajkund Mela made entirely in the Haryanvi dialect. It traces the history of Surajkund, the evolution of the annual fair and its journey into an international cultural platform.

 FTV faculty coordinator Mahesh TP said the screening of a documentary featuring SUPVA students and alumni at an international film festival was a matter of pride for the university. He said the film showcases Haryana’s cultural heritage, traditional arts and crafts, and the creativity of artisans and performers from across the country.
