SUPVA Students Explore the Fusion of Vastu and Modern Architecture
Students of architecture at the Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA) explored the integration of traditional Vastu principles with modern architectural design during a one-day workshop organised at the university.

Rohtak, September 10, 2026: Students of architecture at the Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA) explored the integration of traditional Vastu principles with modern architectural design during a one-day workshop organised at the university.
The workshop was jointly organised by the Heritage Club and INTACH Rohtak Chapter at the Seminar Hall of the Faculty of Planning and Architecture. Architect and Vastu expert Anurag Bhardwaj was the keynote speaker.
Bhardwaj explained the fundamentals of Indian architectural traditions and their relevance to contemporary design. He said Vastu Shastra should not be viewed merely as a set of rules for building construction, but as an Indian knowledge tradition aimed at balancing nature, environment, energy, directions and human life.
He discussed the significance of the five elements—earth, water, fire, air and space—and their role in building planning. Students were also introduced to directions, Vastu Purusha Mandala, site selection, entrance placement, room layouts, natural lighting and ventilation.
Through practical activities and examples, participants learnt how traditional principles could be adapted to contemporary design requirements. Bhardwaj urged students to study Vastu with a scientific approach and critical thinking.
INTACH Rohtak Chapter Convenor Dr Ajay Kaushik, faculty coordinator Ajay Bahu Joshi and Heritage Club Convenor Architect Supri Maheshwari welcomed the speaker. Workshop coordinators Assistant Professor Shruti Gautam and Himanshu Phogat introduced him to the participants. Students described the workshop as informative and useful.
