Sukhi Brar Appointed as Chairperson of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Chandigarh
Renowned Punjabi folk singer and cultural icon Sukhminder Kaur Brar, popularly known as Sukhi Brar (Punjab Kaur), has been appointed as the Chairperson of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Chandigarh by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Chandigarh Administration.
Chandigarh, December 24, 2025: Renowned Punjabi folk singer and cultural icon Sukhminder Kaur Brar, popularly known as Sukhi Brar (Punjab Kaur), has been appointed as the Chairperson of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Chandigarh by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Chandigarh Administration.
Sukhi Brar officially assumed charge of her prestigious position today at the office of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Chandigarh. Sharing this information, eminent lyricist and presenter Bhatti Bhadiwala stated that this honour has been conferred upon Sukhi Brar in recognition of her priceless contribution to Punjabi language, culture, heritage, and for her tireless efforts in promoting Punjabi mother tongue and traditions.
For more than four decades, Sukhi Brar has continuously served Punjab, Punjabi culture, and Punjabi identity. She is considered a living symbol of rural attire, folk dialects, folk traditions, folk music, and Punjab’s rich heritage.
Her appointment as Chairperson of Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi is a matter of great pride for Punjabis across the world.
